Filmmaker Phillip Lopez believes that you can't properly capture a dancer with a still camera, and after seeing his work on the below video, I can absolutely see why. Featuring dancer Roya Carreras, the video is over eight minutes long, but was shot in a single take - a rather extraordinary feat in filmmaking.

As Carreras fills the space she's in with her haunted movements, Lopez follows closely behind to interact with his subject as he films. The result is that Carreras is truly reacting to and interacting with the camera in a way that other dancers cannot with a stagnant camera. As she builds a story through her choreography, it becomes obvious that the camera is a character as well, and you can feel the weight of Carreras's facial expressions as if they were directed entirely toward you. The result is an intimate and heart-wrenching experience that pulls you alongside Carreras in this emotional roller coaster of a performance.
