Breaking Wave by Plebian Design and Hypersonic is an anamorphic kinetic sculpture that aims to call attention to the power of perspective.  It sits in the new headquarters of Biogen-Idec located in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

As the artists describe it, the sculpture "tells the story of the search for patterns, and the surprising results that come by changing our point of view." The sculpture consists of 804 spheres that are suspended in formation resembling a wave. The wave "crests and breaks," and the balls "hover momentarily in a cloud." At this point, taken in from almost any perspective available, the cloud of spheres is looks like chaos.

But, there is a secret. There are two hidden places in the room where the sculpture sits. Step into one of these spots, and a pattern among the apparent chaos is revealed. The two spots each reveal different and meaningful patters. One spot, as the artists describe it, reveals a labyrinth that "hints at the search for knowledge." From the other hidden perspective, one can a Fibonacci spiral "inspired flower reminds us of the natural order and patterns found in nature. "

The artists' play on perspective is fascinating. Watch the video to see for yourself.
