Benjamin Ducroz placed his wooden zoetrope sculptures, each of which has 18 different "instances," in a forest. Imagine that these instances are simply individual views of the sculpture that each present a slightly different view of the object. To create the amazing visual illusion that you will see in the video below, Ducroz weaves together individual frames that show the succession of each sculpture's 18 different instances.

The movements you see from each sculpture follow a specific sine or triangle wave, and each specific wave is repeated every 18 frames. The result is a surreal effect, much like the sculptures are gently breathing!
